Dr Ceri Gorton of Bird & Gorton

 

Ceri is a user-centred design specialist who works across the cultural sector, creative industries, cities, government, and higher education. She is a Clore Cultural Leadership Fellow and IDEO/University of Pennsylvania Creative Impact Fellow.

Ceri is Co-Director of Bird & Gorton, a design thinking consultancy which helps organisations and cities to develop user-centred programmes and strategies, creative leadership, and collaborative working. Clients include the National Theatre, Royal Opera House, Tate, Imperial War Museums, Greenwich + Docklands International Festival and The Space.


Ceri has led culture for the city of Oxford, creative partnerships for The Guardian, and digital leadership programmes for the DCMS and British Council. She has worked on cultural and educational partnerships, programmes, and strategies in the US, Canada, India, Singapore and South Africa.

 

She holds an award-winning literature PhD and her recent research projects include Space to Play: Making Arts & Technology Collaboration Work (with the RSC, Intel & Imaginarium) and AHRC-funded research into Building Digital Leadership in the UK’s Cultural Sector (at the University of Warwick).

Ceri is committed to building people’s leadership confidence, user-centred design skills, and digital capacity so they can make positive change happen in their organisations and communities.

Katy Beale 

 

Katy is a strategist, facilitator, founder and author. She specialises in user-centred design, digital transformation, communicating change and engaging audiences. Her recent consultancy clients include Lambeth Council, Thames Water and Serpentine Galleries.

Katy was Director of Caper, an innovation agency whose clients included BBC, British Council, Crafts Council, University of Cambridge Museums, Royal Academy of Arts, National Maritime Museum, Rambert Dance, Royal Shakespeare Company, Royal Opera House and more.

 

Katy led whole organisation digital transformation for Somerset House, working alongside the Senior Management Team to completely re-imagine the organisation.

As Managing Director of the ed-tech start-up Yodomo, she scaled the product and gained successful investment. She's worked with multiple award-winning digital design agencies as a strategist, including Hyper, Poke, Euro RSCG and iris, on campaigns for Nokia, Orange, Phillips, Coors, Pernod Ricard, Diageo and Barbour.

She co-founded: Culture Hack, the prototyping and open data initiative for arts, culture and heritage; Happenstance, the technologist-in-residence programme, and the Coding for Kids campaign, advising the Dept of Education and 10 Downing St.  

Katy wrote the book “Museums at Play: Games, Interaction and Learning” and is a trustee at Discover Children’s Story Centre in London.
